Countdown to Christmas 12/18/2020: Grandma’s House Quilt Block

Grandma's House Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Grandma’s House Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Gold: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the White 1 7/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. This will flank on ONE (1) side the Gold 1 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle & on ONE (1) other side it’ll flank the White 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangle. These are part of the “top row” when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Gold: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle. (This is flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Gold 1 7/8″ square. It’s also the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block & it’s part of the “top row” when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Gold: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these squares for this quilt block. (This will flank the Gold 7 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Flying Geese. It’s also part of the “second row” when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Gold: Cut ONE (1) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle. (This is flaked on ONE (1) side by the Gold 3 1/2″ x 5″ rectangle & on ONE (1) other side by the results of the Gold 3 7/8″ square. It’s also part of the “second row” when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Gold: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ x 5″ rectangle. (This is flanked on ONE (1) side by the Gold 2″ x
    3 1/2″ rectangle. It’s also part of the “second row” when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Gold: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This will be flanked by the results of the Gold 3 7/8″ square & by the results of the White 3 7/8″ square. Which will create ONE (1) Flying Geese. They’re also part of the “second row” when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Ash Green: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ square. (This will be paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles. It’ll also be flanked on ONE (1) side by the Ash Green 2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle & on ONE (1) other side it’ll be flanked by the Ash Green 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle. This is part of the “left-hand section” of this quilt block when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Ash Green: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles. They’ll also be flanked on ONE (1) side by the Ash Green 2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle & on ONE (1) other side it’ll be flanked by the Ash Green 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle. This is part of the “left-hand section” of this quilt block when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Ash Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle. (This will flank the White 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles, as well as the Ash Green 1 1/2″ square & the Ash Green 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. It’s also the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block. It’s also part of the “left-hand section” of this quilt block when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Ash Green: Cut ONE (1) 2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle. (This is flanked on ONE (1) side by the White
    1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles, as well as the Ash Green 1 1/2″ square & the Ash Green 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. It’s also part of the “left-hand section” of this quilt block when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Mint Green: Cut ONE (1) 2″ x 8″ rectangle. (This is paired with the Mint Green 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & the White 2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangle. It’s also part of the “top row” when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Mint Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2″ x
    2 1/2″ rectangles. They’ll flank on ONE (1) side the Mint Green 2″ x 8″ rectangle & on ONE (1) other side they’ll flank the Mint Green 1 1/2″ x 8″ rectangle. They’ll be part of the “right-hand section” when you look at the “Grandma’s House Quilt Block Diagram” below.)
  • Mint Green: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 8″ rectangle. (This is flanked on ONE (1) side by the Mint Green 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & by the White 2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangle. On ONE (1) other side it’ll be flanked by the Mint Green 3″ x 4″ rectangles & the White 3″ x 4″ rectangles.   • White: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Forest Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (ONE (1) of these is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. Both of them are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut NINE (9) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHTEEN (18) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Green 3 3/8 x 4 3/4″ rectangle which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner. It’ll also be the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8 x 4 3/4″ rectangle. (This is paired with the Green 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner. It’s also flanked by the results of the White 7 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. It’s also flanked on the other TWO (2) sides by the results of the White 7 1/4″ square & the Green
    3 3/8 x 4 3/4″ rectangle. As needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut NINE 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHTEEN (18) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will flank the Green 3 3/8 x 4 3/4″ rectangle as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Purple 2″ squares & they’ll “frame” the Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 2 5/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle. They’re also flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the White 4 1/4″ square & on ONE (1) other side they’re flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle. This is paired with the Purple 2 5/8″ squares. It’s also flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the White 4 1/4″ square & on ONE (1) other side they’re flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Salmon: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 2″ squares & are flanked by the Salmon 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Salmon: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the Salmon 2″ square & the Purple 2″ square. They’re also flanked by the Pink 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank TWO (2) ends of the Purple 2 5/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle. They’ll also flank ONE (1) end of each of the Purple 2 5/8″ squares. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank FOUR (4) sides of the Purple
    2 5/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
