Temperance Tree Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Forest Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (ONE (1) of these is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. Both of them are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut NINE (9) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHTEEN (18) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Green 3 3/8 x 4 3/4″ rectangle which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner. It’ll also be the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8 x 4 3/4″ rectangle. (This is paired with the Green 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner. It’s also flanked by the results of the White 7 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. It’s also flanked on the other TWO (2) sides by the results of the White 7 1/4″ square & the Green
3 3/8 x 4 3/4″ rectangle. As needed for this quilt block.) - White: Cut NINE 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHTEEN (18) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will flank the Green 3 3/8 x 4 3/4″ rectangle as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Temperance Tree Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
I have been trying to figure this block out for 2 hours. Instructions don’t make since. Picture of blocks in nine block quilt does not match the picture of block that is made. I guess that’s what I get for getting it free.
Hello – I don’t know why you are having trouble understanding how to sew this quilt block together? It is written in text & there’s a diagram of the quilt block. Both of those should be enough for you to sew it together. If you cannot make sense of the text, then use the quilt block diagram, as your guide to sew it together.
