Maggie's Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Maggie’s Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Mint Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Green 3 1/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Purple
    5 3/8″ squares.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the results of the Purple 4 3/8″ squares.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Mint Green 5 3/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Purple 5 3/8″ squares.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Green 3 7/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’re also paired with the White 3″ squares.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Green 3 1/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Mint Green 5 3/8″ squares. In addition they’re paired with the results of the White 5 3/8″ squares.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of the “Star in the Center” of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square.(These triangles are paired with the results of the Purple 4 3/8″ squares in the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Green 3 1/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Purple 5 3/8″ squares.)

    5 3/8″ squares.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Lt. Blue 4 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue
    5 3/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Pink 5 3/8″ squares.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 4 3/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the White 4 3/8″ squares.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Blue 3 1/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 5 3/8″ squares. In addition they’re paired with the results of the White 5 3/8″ squares.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of the “Star in the Center” of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Pink 4 3/8″ squares in the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut FIVE (5) 4 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the Lt. Blue 3″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut FIVE (5) 3″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Teal 4 3/8″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the Square in a Squares.)

The Old Grey Goose Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Grey 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. When they’re all sewn together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 8 3/8″ squares. When sewn together with the results of the Lt. Green 4 3/4″ squares they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 8 3/8″ squares. When sewn together with the results of the Lt. Blue 4 3/4″ squares they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Grey: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. When they’re all sewn together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Grey: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. When they’re all sewn together they’ll create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Grey 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. When they’re all sewn together they’ll create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 8 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Lt. Blue 4 3/4″ squares. They’re then flanked on ONE (1) other side by the results of the Lt. Green 4 3/4″ square.   • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) more Half-Square Triangles. Once they’re sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create an additional EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 7 1/2 square. The results of the White 3 7/8″ squares will flank ONE (1) other side of the results of the White 7 1/4″ square. Once all area sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. Once they’re sewn together they’ll be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
