Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3″ squares & will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut NINE (9) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 3″ squares & will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 3 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Nine Patch Star Quilt Blocks,” you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

Nine Patch Star Variation Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Salmon: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Salmon: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Salmon: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Salmon: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Salmon 3″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Salmon 3 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Salmon 3 3/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2″ square. (This is flanked by the results of the Blue 2″ squares & will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Blue 2″ square. They’ll also be flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ x
    4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Blue 2″ squares & will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Blue 2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Teal 3 1/4″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Aqua 3 1/4″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Aqua 3 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Teal 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch portion’s of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2″ squares. EIGHT (8) of these will flank the results of the Purple
    2 1/4″ squares. The remaining EIGHT (8) will flank the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch portion’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2 1/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. These are paired with the Purple 2 1/4″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 6″ rectangles. (These will be the horizontal & vertical centers of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dark Brown:  Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the Brown 4 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Brown:  Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Brown 3″ squares & the results of the Cream 3″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s for this quilt block. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be flanked by the Dark Brown 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Brown:  Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the Dark Brown 3 1/2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s for this quilt block. They’ll also flank on TWO (2) sides the Dark Brown 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • Brown:  Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square.  Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times.  You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Cream 3″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Cream:  Cut TEN (10) 3″ squares.  Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Brown 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
