Quilted Kitchen: Grape Basket Quilt Block & Rhubarb Fruit Salad Recipe

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lilac:  Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ x 7 3/4″ strips. (These will be the upper right-hand side & lower left-hand bottom of this quilt block.)
  • Lilac:  Cut ONE (1) 5 5/8″ square.  Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This will be the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Lilac:  Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This will be the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Lilac:  Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares.  On the back side of the squares, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lilac: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. On the back side of the square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Brown 3 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown:  Cut ONE (1) 3 5/8″ square. (This is paired with the Lilac 3 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 3 5/8″ square. (This is paired with the Yellow 3 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 3 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the results of the Lilac 5 5/8″ square & the results of the Brown 5 5/8″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown:  Cut ONE (1) 5 5/8″ square. (This is paired with the Yellow 5 5/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow:  Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. On the back side of the square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Brown 3 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow:  Cut ONE (1) 5 5/8″ square.  On the back side of the squares, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Brown 5 5/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Green:  Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then on the back side of the square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Melon 3 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Melon:  Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. (This is paired with the Green 3 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Melon:  Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. On the back side of the square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Red 3 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Red:  Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. (This is paired with the Melon 3 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the Lilac 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Block #2 – Part #2 of the Midnight Stargazer 2020 BOM Quilt

This block *is* the most difficult one of all six of them to sew together! Which is why the pattern’s been revealed in two separate parts. The April pattern included the cutting instructions & the first part of sewing the “Stockyard Star” quilt block together.
This month’s pattern will complete the “Stockyard Star” quilt block construction!




But once it’s sewn together, you’ll see what I’m talking about, when I said all of those adjectives above 🙂 ! The black background fabric brings out the beauty of the ombré fabrics, that go into making each & every quilt block.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

(Ed. Note: There are FOUR (4) different shades of Blue in this quilt block. Baby Blue, Light Blue, Medium Blue & Navy Blue. You can mix & match however you’d like to. Or make it a scrappy quilt block instead. Up to you!)

  • Baby Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 3 1/2″ squares & they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4″ square. (This is paired with the Yellow 4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4″ square. On the back side of the square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Navy Blue 4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Medium Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4″ square. On the back side of the square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Navy Blue 4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Medium Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4″ square. (This is paired with the Yellow 4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4″ square. (This is paired with the Light Blue 4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4″ square. (This is paired with the Medium Blue 4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Baby Blue 3 1/2″ squares & they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4″ square. On the back side of the square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Light Blue 4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Light Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. On the back side of each square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Medium Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. On the back side of each square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dark Pink 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White 3″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (2) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the White 3″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. On the back side of each square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Orange: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the Purple 5″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the White 5″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank either the results of the Orange 4 1/2″ square, or the results of the Rust 4 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 5″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are pared with the results of the Orange 4 1/4″ square & the results of the Rush 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
