Quilted Kitchen: Flower Pot Quilt Block & Flower Pot Cake Recipe

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dark Blue:  Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 3/4
    squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Blue:  Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White:  Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dark Blue 3 3/4  squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White:  Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. On the back side of the squares, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Light Blue 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.
  • White:  Cut FOUR (4) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the Dark Blue
    4 1/4″ squares & the Dark Blue 3 3/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White:  Cut ONE (1) 6 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Tan: Cut THREE (3) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 7 1/4″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips. (These are paired with the Tan 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Tan

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Which will be the center of this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) are paired with the results of the Dark Blue
    5 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) more Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, & the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the results of the Navy Blue 5 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) are paired with the results of the Blue
    5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle, that’s the center of this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) are paired with the results of the Navy Blue 5 1/4″ square & the White 5 1/4″ square. Which will create TWO (2) more Square in a Square’s for this quilt block.)

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle & it’ll be the center of this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) are paired with the results of the Dark Blue 5 1/4″ square & the White 5 1/4″ square. Which will create TWO (2) Square in a Square’s for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, which will be the center of this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) will be paired with the results of the Dark Blue 5 1/4″ square & the White 5 1/4″ square. Which will create TWO (2) additional Square in a Square’s for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle, it’ll also be the center of this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) are paired with the results of the Dark Blue

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

(Ed. Note: There are a number of different colors in this quilt block. You can use the same ones that you see here or use your own & make it a scrappy quilt block. Up to you!)

  • Light Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Lavender 3 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Fuchsia 3 1/4″ squares & on ONE (1) other side by the Mint Green 2 1/2″ squares.)
  • Turquoise: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the Purple
    2 1/2″ squares & on ONE (1) other side by the Mint Green 2 1/2″ squares.)
  • Mint Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the Turquoise 2 1/2″ squares & on ONE (1) other side by the Yellow 2 1/2″ squares.)
  • Fuchsia: Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3″ squares to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Fuchsia: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lavender: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the Light Pink 2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2 1/2″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Square in a Square’s for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by either the results of the Pink
    3 1/4″ squares or the Lavender 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s, for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Fuchsia 3″ squares to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank either the results of the Fuchsia 3 1/4″ squares, or the Pink 3 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
