Dutch Mill Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Dutch Mill Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Gray: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create TWO (2) Nine-Patch squares. ONE (1) will be the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) will be the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each of these squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 6 1/2″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball corners. ONE (1) of these squares will be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create TWO (2) Nine-Patch squares. ONE (1) will be the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) will be the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Gray 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball corners. ONE (1) of these squares will be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank on all FOUR (4) sides, the Blue 3 1/2″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’ll be flanked by the Purple 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & by the results of the Lt. Blue 2 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Blue
    2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Lt. Pink 2 3/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the results of the Light Pink 2 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Pink 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked on THREE (3) sides by either the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares, or the White 2 7/8″, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ which will create TWENTY Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) Half-Square Triangle is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ which will create TWENTY Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) Half-Square Triangle is the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut SIX (6) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Green 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 4 3/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
