Arrowhead Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Arrowhead Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Nine-Patch blocks. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White/Teal Flying Geese,  they’re also paired with the Teal/White Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWENTY-FOUR (24) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Nine-Patch blocks. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Teal 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the Teal 2 3/8 squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Pink: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Nine-Patch blocks. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White/Pink Flying Geese,  they’re also paired with the Pink/White Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWENTY-FOUR (24) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Nine-Patch blocks. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Teal 2 5/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Pink 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2  3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Rust 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles, as well as the White 2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut TWENTY (20) 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Yellow 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles, as well as the White 2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Yellow 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles, as well as the White 2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 2  3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Bright Pink 3 7/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Pink: Cut TWO (2) 6 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Bright Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Lt. Pink 3 7/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Bright Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Purple 3 7/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Bright Pink: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This will flank the results of the Purple 3 7/8″ square, which will be 1/4 of a Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Bright Pink 3 7/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

  • Tan: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Half-Square Triangles in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the White 3 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White
    5 1/4″ square & with the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ squares. Together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Red 2 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the combination of the Half-Square Triangles & the Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Tan
    5 1/4″ square & with the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ squares. Together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
