Ramble Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Ramble Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares, as well as the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares & the results of the Purple 2 3/8″ squares. When sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese. FOUR (4) of these Flying Geese will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining EIGHT (8) of them are needed for the rest of the quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Dk. Purple 3 7/8″ squares & they’ll also flank the results of the Purple 2 3/8″ squares. When sewn together with the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese. FOUR (4) of these Flying Geese will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining EIGHT (8) of them are needed for the rest of the quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares.
