Ribbon Square Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Ribbon Square Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut TWENTY (20) 1 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Quarter-Square Triangles & will help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 1/4″ squares which will create SIXTEEN (16) Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Pink 2 1/4″ squares which will create SIXTEEN (16) Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Pink
    2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (1) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Pink 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Nine-Patch blocks. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ square & with the results of the the Dk. Blue 3 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles.
