Star Shine Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Lt. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ square & with the results of the the Dk. Blue 3 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
- Dk. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 4 1/4″ square & with the results of the White 4 1/4″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also create the center of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue
4 1/4″ square & with the results of the Dk. Blue 3 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.) - White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Blue

If you make TWELVE (12) “Star Shine Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

- Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Dk. Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Lilac 3 7/8″ squares & with the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also create the center of this quilt block.)
- Violet: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lilac 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
