Beacon Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares. They’re also paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the results of the Pink 4 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Pink
    4 3/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Pink 3 3/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Pink 4 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.   • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank the results of the Blue 3 1/2″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lilac 1 7/8″ squares, then they’ll create a Four-Patch that’s the center of this quilt block, when they’re sewn together)
  • Blue: Cut FOURTEEN (14) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWENTY-EIGHT (28) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Lilac/Purple Four-Patch that’s in the center of this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank the White 3 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block when it’s sewn together.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Blue 4 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
