Envelope Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

• Orange: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
• Orange: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
• Orange: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
• White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Orange 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
• White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Orange 4 3/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block when it’s sewn together.)
• White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Orange 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

If you sew TWELVE (12) “Envelope Star Quilt Blocks” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
