Lover's Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Lover’s Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the White 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Blue: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles. TWO (2) of these Half-Square Triangles are in the center of this quilt block. The remaining EIGHT (8) of these Half-Square Triangles, will help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block, as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 1/2″ squares. (When EIGHT (8) of these squares are paired with the Purple/White Half-Square Triangles, these squares will help create, the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. When the remaining TWO (2) squares are paired with the Purple/White Half-Square Triangles, they’ll create the center of this quilt block, as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles. TWO (2) of these Half-Square Triangles are in the center of this quilt block. The remaining EIGHT (8) of these Half-Square Triangles, will help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block, as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the White 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. When paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares, they’ll help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block, as needed to sew it together.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is flanked by the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block when sewn together.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These squares are paired with the Purple/White Half-Square Triangles, which will help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block, as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. When paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares, they’ll help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block, as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Dk. Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Dk. Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the Teal 2 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Dk. Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)

If you sew TWELVE (12) “Crossroads Star Quilt Blocks” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

Crossroads Star Variation Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut THREE (3) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. This block only uses TEN (10) of these triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Quarter-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Quarter-Square Triangles is the center of this quilt block as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. Then they’re paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. This quilt block only uses TEN (10) of these triangles.(These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Quarter-Square Triangles is the center of this quilt block as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. Then they’re paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with TWO (2) sides of the Aqua/White Flying Geese. They’re also paired with ONE (1) side of the Aqua/White Half-Square Triangles. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 5 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with TWO (2) sides of the Aqua/White Flying Geese. They’re also paired with ONE (1) side of the Aqua/White Half-Square Triangles. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Aqua 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Aqua/White Half-Square Triangles. They’ll help create the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Aqua
    2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with each other which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. This is then the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
