Starshadow Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Dk. Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Dk. Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Dk. Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the Teal 2 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Dk. Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Purple 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Purple 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Teal: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Dk. Purple
5 1/4″ square, which will end up creating FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.) - Teal: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Dk. - White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Purple 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)

Sew TWELVE (12) “Starshadow Star Quilt Blocks” to end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

- Maroon: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Pink 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Maroon: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Maroon: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Lt. Pink 2 7/8″ squares. They’re also flanked on ONE (1) other side by the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Dk. Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Lt. Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Maroon 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Maroon 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Lt. Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Maroon 5 1/4″ square, which will end up creating FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Maroon 5 1/4″ square, which will end up creating FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Plum: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the White 4 3/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Pink 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the Plum 4 3/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
