Large Star Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be the upper left-hand corner & lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 1/2″ squares. Which will create a Four-Patch & be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3″ squares & will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be the lower left-hand corner & upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 4 1/2″ squares. Which will create a Four-Patch & be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 3″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 3″ squares & will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White 5 1/4″ squares & will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Yellow 5 1/4″ squares & will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Pink: Cut THREE (3) 4 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 4 1/2″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles. You only need FIVE (5) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Peach 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Orange: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 5/8″ squares which will create the center of this quilt block. They will also be flanked by the results of the White 7″ squares, which will create a Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Orange 2 5/8″ squares which will create the center of this quilt block. They will also be flanked by the results of the White 7″ squares, which will create a Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 7″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Orange 2 5/8″ squares & the White 2 5/8″ squares. Which will create a Square in a Square. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5″ square. (This is paired with the White 5″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is paired with the results of the Pink 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut THREE (3) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles.   • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need SIX (6) of these triangles for this quilt block. But save the other TWO (2) as you’ll need them soon (below). (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares, which will create THREE (3) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Using the TWO (2) remaining triangles from the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares (above)  These are paired with the results of the Purple 5 1/4″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)

  • Light Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Navy Blue 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ x 6 7/8″ strips. (These are paired with the Navy Blue 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) strips with Snowball Corner’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Light Blue 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3 1/2″ x 6 7/8″ strips, which will create FOUR (4) strips with Snowball Corner’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
