Wandering Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5″ square. (This is paired with the White 5″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is paired with the results of the Pink 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut THREE (3) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is paired with the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5″ square. (This is paired with the Blue 5″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut THREE (3) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 5″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Wandering Star Quilt Blocks,” you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
Wandering Star Variation Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need SIX (6) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create THREE (3) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (This is paired with the White 5 1/4″ square, with will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need SIX (6) of these triangles for this quilt block. But save the other TWO (2) as you’ll need them soon (below). (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares, which will create THREE (3) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Using the TWO (2) remaining triangles from the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares (above) These are paired with the results of the Purple 5 1/4″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
