Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank on all FOUR (4) sides, the Blue 3 1/2″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’ll be flanked by the Purple 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & by the results of the Lt. Blue 2 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Blue
    2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Lt. Pink 2 3/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the results of the Light Pink 2 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Pink 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Red 2 5/8″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Pink: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked on TWO (2) ends by the Brown 2 1/2″ squares, which will create a “frame” around the Brown 4 1/2″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will flank on TWO (2) ends the Yellow 2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles, which will create a “frame” around the Brown 4 1/2″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be flanked, on all FOUR (4) sides, by the Yellow  2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. It’s also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create the FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Yellow: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Orange 2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch squares, for the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Yellow 2 3/8″ squares. Then they’ll be paired with the results of the Orange 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Pieced Star Variation Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 1 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch as well as ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Green 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares. Then they’ll flank the results of the White
    3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch as well as ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for the center of  this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares & they’re paired with the results of the Blue 4 1/4″ squares. Then they’ll flank the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Green 2″ x
    3 1/2″ rectangles & then they’re paired with the results of the Blue 4 1/4″ squares. Then they’ll flank the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Nine-Patch in the center of the quilt block, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Blue 3 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
