Pieced Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Orange 1 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch as well as ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for the center of this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Orange 2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch squares, for the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Yellow 2 3/8″ squares. Then they’ll be paired with the results of the Orange 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Yellow 2″ x
3 1/2″ rectangles. Then they’ll be paired with the results of the Orange 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.) - Orange: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 1 7/8″ squares, to create the Nine-Patch as well as the Square in a Square, for the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Orange: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch squares, for the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Orange: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the the Yellow 2″ x
3 1/2″ rectangles & the results of the Yellow 2 3/8″ squares. Then they’ll flank the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.) - White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Nine-Patch in the center of the quilt block, to create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Four-Patch squares as needed for this quilt block.)

- Blue: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 1 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch as well as ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for the center of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Green 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares. Then they’ll flank the results of the White
3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.) - Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch as well as ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for the center of this quilt block.)
