On Cloud Nine: Pieced Pinwheels Quilt Block

Pieced Pinwheels Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Pieced Pinwheels Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Blue: Cut SIX (6) 3 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Jade 3 3/4″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Jade: Cut SIX (6) 3 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 3 3/4″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Jade: Cut SIX (6) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue/Jade Half-Square Triangles. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 7 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with all of the above Half-Square Triangles & the fabric cuts. Which will create the FOUR (4) Pieced Pinwheels.)

Hide & Seek Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ x 5″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2″ x 5″ rectangles.)
  • Red: Cut TEN (10) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) Square in a Square is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 5″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 2 1/2″ x 5″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Red 3 3/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) Square in a Square is the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut FIVE (5) 4 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the Lt. Blue 3″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut FIVE (5) 3″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Teal 4 3/8″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the Square in a Squares.)

City Streets Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Rust: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re “framed” by the White 1 1/2″ squares. They’re also “framed” by the White 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • Rust: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These will “frame” the White 4 1/2″ square in the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles. Once they’re sewn together they’ll “frame” the Rust 3 1/2″ squares in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s “framed” by the Rust 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Rust 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles. They’re also paired with the White 1 1/2″ squares. Once they’re sewn together they’ll create a “frame” around the Rust 3 1/2″ squares in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Rust 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Green 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle.)
  • Red: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles. Once they’re sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’re also paired with the Red 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. Once sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) more Snowball Corners.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/2″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’re also paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 3″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Green 1 1/2″ x
    3 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 3″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Red 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles. They’re also paired with the 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
