On Cloud Nine: Lone Tree Quilt Block

Lone Tree Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Lone Tree Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 1 7/8″ x 7 5/8″ rectangle, which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. You only need SEVEN (7) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. ( This will flank the results of the Green 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is paired with the results of the White 6 7/8″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Green
    2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ x 7 5/8″ rectangle. (This is paired with the Green 1 7/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. You only need SEVEN (7) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pale Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pale Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Pale Yellow 4 1/2″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked on THREE (3) sides by either the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares, or the White 2 7/8″, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ which will create TWENTY Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) Half-Square Triangle is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ which will create TWENTY Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) Half-Square Triangle is the center of this quilt block.)

  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Pink 2 1/2″ x
    4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Yellow 2 1/2″ x
    4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares & as well as the results of the Tan 2 7/8″ squares. They’ll create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Tan: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Blue 4 1/2″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) Half-Square Triangle for this quilt block.)

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is paired with the Tan 4 1/2″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) Half-Square Triangle for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these will flank the results of the Tan 4 1/2″ square & the other TWO (2) will flank the results of the Tan 2 7/8″ squares. As needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 9 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is flanked on both sides, by the results of the White 6 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
