On Cloud Nine: Battle of the Alamo Quilt Block

Battle of the Alamo Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Battle of the Alamo Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut TEN (10) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares & they’ll create TWO (2) Nine-Patch squares. They’ll also be the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are the lower left-hand & the upper right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2 1/2″ squares & they’ll create TWO (2) Nine-Patch squares. They’ll also be the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the results of Teal 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Teal 6 7/8″ squares on ONE (1) side as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. You only need THREE (3) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be flanked by the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares. ONE (1) of them will be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block. Another ONE (1) will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Pink 2 1/2″ squares on ONE (1) side. They’ll also flank the results of the Pink 4 7/8″ squares. In addition they’ll help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Pink 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Tan: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Brown 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1)  Four-Patch. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block. They’ll be flanked by the results of the White 5 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Tan: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Tan 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. Together they’ll create TWO (2) of the corners of this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Tan 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. Together they’ll create TWO (2) of the corners of this quilt block.)
