Cat’s Cradle Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Lt. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
- Lt. Blue: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Lt. Blue: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. You only need THREE (3) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be flanked by the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares. ONE (1) of them will be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block. Another ONE (1) will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Cat’s Cradle Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
