On Cloud Nine: Handy Andy Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Tan 2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Tan: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the Pink 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the Tan 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the Pink
    2 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Tan
    5 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 2 7/8″ squares, which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Gray: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the White 5 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square & help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square & help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the Teal 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles & by the Teal 1 7/8″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles. As needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Teal 5 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Teal 5 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 1 7/8″ x 7 5/8″ rectangle, which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. You only need SEVEN (7) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. ( This will flank the results of the Green 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is paired with the results of the White 6 7/8″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Green
    2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ x 7 5/8″ rectangle. (This is paired with the Green 1 7/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
