On Cloud Nine: Autumn Maze Quilt Block

Autumn Maze Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blush: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.
  • Blush: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Yellow
    4 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Beige: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Quarter-Square Triangle in the center, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Blush
    4 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White
    2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’ll be flanked by the results of the Blush 2 7/8″ squares.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Yellow 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the White 4 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 2 1/2″ squares which will create TWO (2) Four-Patch blocks. They’ll also be the upper left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ block. (This is paired with the White 4 7/8″ block, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

  • Dk. Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Dk. Green 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2 rectangles. They’ll also be the upper right-hand & the lower left-hand corners of this quilt block.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut TEN (10) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares & they’ll create TWO (2) Nine-Patch squares. They’ll also be the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are the lower left-hand & the upper right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2 1/2″ squares & they’ll create TWO (2) Nine-Patch squares. They’ll also be the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
