On Cloud Nine: Double Arrow Quilt Block

Double Arrow Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Double Arrow Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 3 3/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the White 3 3/8″ squares. When sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Yellow 3 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the White 3 3/8″ squares. When sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ x
    6 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Yellow 3 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the Blue 3 3/8″ squares. When sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the “Pink Courthouse Steps” blocks & they’ll create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut THREE (3) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need EIGHT (8) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Quarter-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Quarter-Square Triangles is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these Quarter-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Pink: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 1 1/4″ squares. (These are the cornerstones of the “Pink Courthouse Steps” as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are the centers of the “Pink Courthouse Steps” as need for this quilt block.
  • Pink: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 1 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Lt. Pink cornerstones for each of the “Pink Log Cabins” & they’ll flank the center Lt. Pink 1 7/8″ center squares of the “Pink Courthouse Steps” for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need EIGHT (8) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Quarter-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Quarter-Square Triangles is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these Quarter-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The other FOUR (4) of these squares, are paired with the White side of the Half-Square Triangles & they’ll help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lilac 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lilac 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Purple 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
