On Cloud Nine: Geese Crossing Quilt Block

Geese Crossing Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Green 3 1/4″ squares.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be flanked by the results of the Green 3 1/4″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 9 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 2 3/8″ square & will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Red 2 3/8″ squares.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the White 3 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 3 3/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the Purple 2 5/8″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the White 3 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Purple 2 5/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the Purple 2 5/8″ squares. They’re also paired on ONE (1) other side with the Red 2 5/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. These are paired with the Pink 3 3/8″ squares. Together with the White 3 3/8″ square they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Red 3 3/8″ squares as well as the White 3 3/8″ square. Together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. These are paired with the results of thee Bright Pink 2 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. Together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Bright Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of thee White 2 7/8″ squares. Together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Pink 3 3/8″ squares. Together with the Red 3 3/8″ squares they’ll create the center portion of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of thee Bright Pink 2 7/8″ squares. Together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (2) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank TWO (2) sides of the Red 3 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
