The First Day after Christmas 12/26/2020: Glory Star Quilt Block

Glory Star Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Glory Star Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Purple 2 7/8″ squares & on the other TWO (2) sides by the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. As needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the Pink 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Aqua: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Aqua 6 1/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Blue
    2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Navy Blue: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles.  You only need NINE (9) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are flanked by the the Pink 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Navy Blue 1 7/8″ squares which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles. You only need NINE (9) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. You only need NINE (9) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 9 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is the “basket” of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle. (This is paired on ONE (1) side with the results of the White 9 7/8″ square & on ONE (1) other side with the White 1 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle. It’s part of the “basket handle” of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle. (This is paired one ONE (1) side with the results of the White 9 7/8″ square & on ONE (1) other side with the White 1 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle. It’s part of the “basket handle” of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the the Navy Blue 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. You only need NINE (9) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (ONE (1) of these is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. The other ONE (1) is the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is flanked by the Pink 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle & by the Pink 1 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle. It’s also flanked by the results of the Pink 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle. (This will be the right-hand side of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle. (This will be the top of this quilt block.)
