Countdown to Christmas 12/10/2019: Jolly Bells Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut FIVE (5) 3 3/8″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Yellow 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This will be the “trunk” of your tree for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. You only need THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Dark Green 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Green: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Dark Green 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (TWO (2) of these will be the upper left-hand & right-hand corner’s of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) will be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle. (This will be the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Brown 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. You only need THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares.On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This will be the “trunk” of the tree & it will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the White 3 1/2″ x 5″ strips.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 3 /8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (This will flank the results of the Green 3 3 /8″ squares. It will also be the “top” of the tree.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 3 /8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dark Green 3 3 /8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the “center” of the tree.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 3 /8″ square. (This is paired with the White 3 3 /8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 3 /8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (This will flank the results of the Green 3 3 /8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 3 /8″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 3 3 /8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the “center” of the tree.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3 /8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the White 3 3 /8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ x 5″ strips. (These will flank the Brown 3 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will be the upper left-hand & upper left-hand corner’s of this quilt block.)

  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These will flank on the top & bottom the Red 2 7/8″ x 7 3/4″ strip, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ x 7 3/4″ strip. (This will be flanked on the top & bottom, by the Red 2 7/8″ squares. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Magenta: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will make SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Magenta 3 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Magenta 3 1/4″ squares, which will make SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Light Gray: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Dark Gray 3 3/8″ square, which will create a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Gray: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the Light Gray
    2 7/8″ squares, which will create a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Gray: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The other FOUR (4) will be flanked, on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Blue
    2 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Dark Gray 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank on TWO (2) sides, the Dark Gray 1 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.
