Countdown to Christmas 12/9/2019: Delaware Pines Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Brown: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This will be the “trunk” of your tree for this quilt block.)
- Brown: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. You only need THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Dark Green 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
- Dark Green: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Dark Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Dark Green 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut THREE (3) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (TWO (2) of these will be the upper left-hand & right-hand corner’s of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) will be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle. (This will be the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Brown 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. You only need THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares.On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Delaware Pines Quilt Blocks,” you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
I’m making several of these tree blocks to mail to a quilt guild in Australia. There are requesting tree blocks to make quilts for people who have lost their homes in the fires. This block looked perfect for this
