Temperance Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 1 7/8″ squares, then they’ll create a Four-Patch that’s the center of this quilt block, when they’re sewn together.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lilac 1 7/8″ squares, then they’ll create a Four-Patch that’s the center of this quilt block, when they’re sewn together)
- Blue: Cut FOURTEEN (14) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWENTY-EIGHT (28) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Lilac/Purple Four-Patch that’s in the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 3 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut FOURTEEN (14) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWENTY-EIGHT (28) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank the results of the Blue
3 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.) - White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These rectangles are on the left & right sides of the star that’s in the center of this quilt block. They’ll create partially create a “frame” around the center star.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangles. (These rectangles are on the top & bottom of the star that’s in the center of this quilt block. They’ll create partially create a “frame” around the center star.)

- Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Pink/White Quarter-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Lt. Pink/Rose Four-Patch that’s in the center of this quilt block.)
