Lightening Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Gray 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Gray: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Dk. Blue: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles, are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will flank the Gray 3 3/8″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles, are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the Green/Gray Flying Geese, they’re also paired on ONE (1) other side with the Dk. Blue/White Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
