Hillside Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares. Then they’ll be paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the White 4″ square in the center of this quit block. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles. They’re also paired on ONE (1) other side with the results of the Green 3 1/4″ squares. In addition they’re paired on ONE (1) other side with the results of the Green 3 3/8″ squares.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the Green 2 3/8″ squares. Then they’re paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Green 3 3/8″ squares.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)

Sew TWELVE (12) “Hillside Star Quilt Blocks” to end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Blue/White Quarter-Square Triangle in the center of this quit block.)
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White
3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle in the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Blue 3 3/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.) - White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares.
