Poinsettia Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. Together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. Together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the center of this quilt block which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.
- Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Lt. Gray
4 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.) - Lt. Gray: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Poinsettia Star Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
