Mystery Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Purple
5 1/4″ squares & the results of the White 4 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.) - Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Pink
5 1/4″ squares & the results of the White 4 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.) - Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White
5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.) - White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Purple 5 1/4″ squares & the results of the Pink 5 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White
5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Mystery Star Variation Quilt Block

(These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Orange: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square & with the results of the White 4 7/8″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Orange: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Orange
