Star Power: White Star Quilt Block & White Star Variation Quilt Block

White Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with TWO (2) sides of the Aqua/White Flying Geese. They’re also paired with ONE (1) side of the Aqua/White Half-Square Triangles. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 5 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with TWO (2) sides of the Aqua/White Flying Geese. They’re also paired with ONE (1) side of the Aqua/White Half-Square Triangles. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Aqua 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Aqua/White Half-Square Triangles. They’ll help create the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Aqua
2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with each other which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. This is then the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)

If you sew TWELVE (12) “White Star Quilt Blocks” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

White Star Variation Quilt Block

White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles. They’ll help create the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the White 1 7/8″ squares in the center of this quilt block.)
Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. Then they’re paired with the White 1 7/8″ square that’s in the center of this quilt block. Next they’re flanked by the results of the Blue 3 1/4″ square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
White: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with FOUR (4) other 1 7/8″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with FOUR (4) of the White 1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

Lilac: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the White 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. This quilt block only needs ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles. It’s then paired with the White 2 1/2″ square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the Lilac/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Violet: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the White 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. This quilt block only needs ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles. It’s then paired with the White 2 1/2″ square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Violet: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Violet/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with TWO (2) of the White 2 1/2″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (TWO (2) of these are the upper left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block. The other TWO (2) are paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the lower left-hand & the upper right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the Purple 2 1/2″ squares. The other TWO (2) are paired with the Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with TWO (2) of the Purple
2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (ONE (1) of these is paired with the Lilac 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. This quilt block only needs ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles. The other ONE (1) of these squares is paired with the Violet 2 7/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. This quilt block only needs ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles. They’re both then paired with the White 2 1/2″ square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
