Patriotic Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Red: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ x
4 1/2″ rectangles.) - Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. When sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares. When sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- White: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 4 78″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
