Quilted Kitchen: Indian Maize Quilt Block & Spiced Indian Corn Recipe

Indian Maize Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Indian Maize Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Black: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Red 4 1/4″ squares. Together with the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares, they’ll create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Black: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank on TWO (2) sides the results of the Black 2 3/8″ squares. They’ll also flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Yellow 3 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White
    2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Black 2 3/8″ squares. They’re also flanked on ONE (1) other side by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. All together they’ll create EIGHT (8) more Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gold: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Gold: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 3 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Gold & White Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the Yellow & Gold Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Gold 3 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the Gold & White Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Gold 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Red 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Red 4 1/4″ squares. Together with the Black 2 3/8″ squares, they’ll create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red & White Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Red & White Flying Geese. They’ll also be paired with the Gold & Yellow Half-Square Triangles in the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles, which will form a “frame” around the center Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Pink 2 5/8″ squares, which will form a “frame” around the center Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Fuchsia: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Four-Patch sections. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Fuchsia: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Fuchsia: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Fuchsia 2″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Four-Patch sections. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Fuchsia 2″ squares & they’ll also flank the “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Fuchsia 3 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lime Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares. Together they’ll create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lime Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue:  Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White 5 3/8″ squares which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the upper right-hand & lower left-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray:  Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White 5 3/8″ squares which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block).

  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White:  Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (FOUR (4) of these triangles will flank the results of the Blue 5 3/8″ squares & will create TWO (2) Flying Geese. The other FOUR (4) of these will flank the results of the Gray 5 3/8″ squares & will create TWO (2) more Flying Geese. All are needed for this quilt block.)
  • White:  Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with all of the Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut THIRTY-TWO (32) 1 7/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Aqua 1 7/8″ squares which will create SIXTEEN (26) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
