Kitty Cat Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Kitty Cat Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Gray: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together. These will be the Kitty Cat’s ears.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the Kitty Cat’s legs. They’re paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the Kitty Cat’s bodies. They’re sandwiched between the Kitty Cat’s ears & the Kitty Cat’s legs.)
  • Black: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together. These will be the Kitty Cat’s ears.)
  • Black: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the Kitty Cat’s legs. They’re paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • Black: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the Kitty Cat’s bodies. They’re sandwiched between the Kitty Cat’s ears & the Kitty Cat’s legs.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares. (These are sandwiched between the Gray/White Half-Square Triangles (the Kitty Cat’s Gray ears) & they’re also sandwiched between the Black/White Half-Square Triangles (the Kitty Cat’s Black ears) . All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Gray 1 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together. These will be the Kitty Cat’s ears.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Black 1 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together. These will be the Kitty Cat’s ears.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Gray 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles (The Kitty Cat’s Gray legs). They’re also paired with the Black 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles (The Kitty Cat’s Black legs). All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (ONE (1) of these is the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block. They’re paired with each other in order to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the upper left-hand, the upper right-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles is also the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 6 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together. ONE (1) of these triangles is also the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Navy Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2 7/8″ squares. Once they’re sewn together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Blue: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Navy Blue 2 7/8″ squares. Once they’re sewn together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ x 5 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Navy Blue 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ x 5 5/8″ rectangles, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut THREE (3) 6 5/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Flying Geese, as needed when this quilt block is sewn together.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 6 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White
    6 5/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. That will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Teal 6 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed when this quilt block is sewn together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Teal

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Ash Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the White 6 7/8″ square. It’s also paired with the Dk. Green/White & Ash Green/White Half-Square Triangles. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Ash Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the White 2 7/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. This is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Ash Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the Dk. Green/White Half-Square Triangles & they’re also paired with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the TWO (2) White 1 1/4″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles & it’s also paired with the Dk. Green 1 7/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle. All together they’ll create ONE (1) Snowball corner. They’ll also be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Dk. Green 1 7/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle, which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle. (This is paired one ONE (1) end with the Dk. Green 1 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner. It’s also paired on TWO (2) sides with the White 1 1/4″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles & it’s also paired with the results of the White 2 1/4″ square. Then it’s paired again with the Dk. Green 2 7/8″ square & all are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Ash Green 2 7/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. This is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the Dk. Green/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Then they’re paired again with the Ash Green 4 1/2″ square & TWO (2) Dk. Green/White Half-Square Triangles. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 1 1/4″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles, which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/4″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 1/4″ squares which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners. They’re also paired with the Dk. Green 1 7/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle & they’re also paired with the Dk. Green 2 7/8″ square. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
