Eight Pointed Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2)) triangles per square.
  • Medium Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2)) triangles per square.
  • Dark Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares.
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. On the back side of each square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.
  • Medium Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. On the back side of each square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.
  • Dark Blue: Cut FIVE (5) 1 3/4″ squares.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares.
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 3/4″ squares.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green:  Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the Yellow 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow:  Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the results of the Yellow 3″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow:  Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White:  Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will flank on ONE (1) side the White 2 1/2″ x
    4 1/2″ rectangles, on ONE (1) other side they’ll flank the results of the White 3″ square & on ONE (1) other side the results of the Yellow 3″ square. All are needed for this quilt block.)
  • White:  Cut (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White:  Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 3″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Yellow 3″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
