Star Power Bonus! Washington Star Quilt Block & Washington Star Variation Quilt Block
Washington Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Lt. Gray: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Lt. Gray: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Lt. Peach: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Lt. Peach: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the Lt. Gray 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Lt. Gray 4 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Lt. Peach 4 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.
- White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These are flanked on TWO (2) ends by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut THREE (3) Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need TEN (10) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Peach 4 1/4″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Lt. Peach 4 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

- Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank on TWO (2) sides the results of the White 4 1/2″ square & on the other TWO (2) sides the White 3 1/2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Navy Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Navy Blue 2 3/8″ squares & will help create the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the Blue 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Navy Blue 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

- Red: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.
- Blue: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (FOUR (4) of these are paired with the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. The remaining EIGHT (8) of them will flank the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Navy Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Navy Blue 2 3/8″ squares. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is flanked by the results of the Navy Blue 2 3/8″ squares. It’s also the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Blue 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

- Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch portions. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 1/2″ squares. On the back side the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 3 1/8″ x 7 7/8″ rectangles, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 4″ rectangles. (These will ‘frame’ the left & right sides of the White
4 1/2″ square which will help create the center of this quilt block.) - Pink: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 7″ rectangles. (These will ‘frame’ the top & bottom of the White 4 1/2″ center square which will help create the center of this quilt block.)
