Star Power: Cactus Star Quilt Block & Cactus Star Variation Quilt Block

Cactus Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Cactus Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. Then they’re paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Gray 5 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Gray
    2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Gray: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. Once they’re sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Gray: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Gray
    2 7/8″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Gray 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. Once they’re sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These squares are paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. Then they’re paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
