On Cloud Nine: Twin Darts Quilt Block

Twin Darts Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will be flanked on both sides, by the White 3″ x 3 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will flank on both sides, the White 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will make FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be paired with the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, to create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. This will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will be flanked on both sides, by the Blue 3″ x 3 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will flank on both sides, the Blue 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares, which will make FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be paired with the results of the Blue 7 1/4″ square, to create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. This will also be the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2 squares. (These will be placed in the center of your quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Dark Blue 3 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, you only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles, for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares & will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. You only need THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles, for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 3 1/2 squares. (These will be sewn together in several different places on this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dark Blue 3 7/8″ squares & will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. You only need THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Blue  5 1/4″ square and the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, to create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Red  5 1/4″ squares and the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, to create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles.   • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares and the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank on all FOUR (4) sides, the Pink 3 3/8″ square, which will create a Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Pink 5 1/4″ square and the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.   • Light Peach: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank THREE (3) sides of the Peach 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Ash Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the remaining side of the Peach 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
