Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Red: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square and the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, to create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Red 5 1/4″ squares and the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, to create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Red 5 1/4″ squares and the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square, to create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Ohio Star Quilt Blocks,” you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
Ohio Star Variation Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the results of the Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create a Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares and the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank on all FOUR (4) sides, the Pink 3 3/8″ square, which will create a Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Pink 5 1/4″ square and the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.
