Checkerboard Quilt Block
This quilt block is meant to be scrappy. So pull out your scraps & have fun with them while making this quilt block! Or follow my fabric color suggestions (below) & create a quilt block like the one shown above!
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Orange: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Turquoise: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Bright Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the White 3 3/8″ squares. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
- Gold: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Light Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These will flank on all FOUR (4) sides, the Bright Pink
3 3/8″ square, as needed for this quilt block.) - White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank all of the color’s shown above, with the exception of the Bright Pink 3 3/8″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Checkerboard Quilt Blocks,†you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
