Chocolate Cake Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12â€³ finished block (scant 1/4â€³ seam allowance):

Dark Brown:Â Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the Brown 4 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
Dark Brown:Â Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Brown 3″ squares & the results of the Cream 3″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s for this quilt block. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
Brown: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be flanked by the Dark Brown 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
Brown:Â Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares.Â Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.Â You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the Dark Brown 3 1/2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s for this quilt block. They’ll also flank on TWO (2) sides the Dark Brown 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
Brown:Â Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square.Â Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times.Â You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Cream 3″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
Cream:Â Cut TEN (10) 3″ squares.Â Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.Â You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Brown 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

“Stockyard Star”
Block #2 – Part #1 of the Midnight Stargazer 2020 BOM Quilt

This block is by far the most challenging quilt block to sew together thus far! In fact, I think it *is* the most difficult one of all six of them! Which is why the pattern’s being revealed in two separate parts. This month’s pattern includes the cutting instructions & the first part of sewing the “Stockyard Star” quilt block together.
Next month’s pattern will complete the “Stockyard Star” quilt block construction.

But once it’s sewn together, you’ll see what I’m talking about, when I said all of those adjectives above ðŸ™‚ ! The black background fabric brings out the beauty of the ombrÃ© fabrics that go into making each & every quilt block.

Abbi Mayâ€™s Fabric Shop’s only got ONE (1) “Midnight Stargazer” quilt kit left in her shop! Better hurry if you think you want to make this gorgeous, amazing & luscious quilt!

Cutting Requirements for 12â€³ finished block (precise 1/4â€³ seam allowance):

Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4â€³ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White
5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
White: Cut EIGHT (8) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Blue 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4â€³ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Blue

Purple: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4â€³ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
Purple: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Square’s. FOUR (4) of them will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The final ONE (1) will be the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12â€³ finished block (precise 1/4â€³ seam allowance):

Medium Blue: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ square.
Rust: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ squares.
Pink: Cut THREE (3) 1 1/2″ squares.
Mint Green, Turquoise: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares of EACH color.
Purple, Yellow: Cut FIVE (5) 1 1/2″ squares of EACH color.
Purple, Yellow, Medium Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares of EACH color.
Rust: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares.
Blue: Cut SIX (6) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles.
