Quilted Kitchen: Columbia Pinwheel Quilt Block & Easy Pinwheel Cookie Recipe

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Ash Green: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times.  You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the Olive Green 7″ squares, which will create the second Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this  quilt block.)
  • Olive Green: Cut TWO (2) 7″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.  You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Green 4″ squares & the results of the White 4″ squares. Which will create the first Square in a Square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. On the back side of the squares, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 7 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need SIX (6) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 4″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Purple 2 1/2″ squares. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 4″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Purple 7 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Purple

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 7 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.
