On Cloud Nine: Housewife Quilt Block & Tutorial

Housewife Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!Housewife Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Dark Purple 3″ squares, as well as the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. They’ll also create a Square in a Square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. On the back side the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dark Purple 4 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Dark Purple 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 8 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut FOUR (4) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square.
  • Tan: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the Pink 8 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is the center of the star in the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is the center of the star in the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Purple 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Gray 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
