Quilted Kitchen: Church Steps Quilt Block & Church Windows Recipe

Church Steps Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut THIRTY (30) 1 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired, with each of the White rectangle cuts (below), to create Snowball Corners).
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with FOUR (4) of the 1 1/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be paired with the Square in a Square in the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 5″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball corners. They’ll also be paired with the FOUR (4) prior rectangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 6 7/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be paired with the FOUR (4) prior rectangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be paired with the FOUR (4) prior White rectangles.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Salmon: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners. FOUR (4) of these Snowball Corner portions of this quilt block will help create the center of this quilt block. The rest of the FOUR (4) Snowball Corner portions of this quilt block will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Salmon: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Dk. Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. paired with the Green 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Dk. Green 2 5/8″ square, as well as the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles, they’ll create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Dk. Green 2 5/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’re also paired with the Green 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the upper half of the Green 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the Snowball Corner & the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 5″ rectangles. (These will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

    2 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Aqua: Cut TEN (10) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Aqua 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles which will create TEN (10) Snowball Corners. TWO (2) of these Snowball Corners will be in the center of this quilt block. FOUR (4) of these Snowball Corners will be in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Aqua 1 7/8″squares which will create TEN (10) Snowball Corners. TWO (2) of these Snowball Corners will be in the center of this quilt block. FOUR (4) of these Snowball Corners will be in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White squares that have the Aqua Snowball Corners in them.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank TWO (2) sides of the White squares that have the Aqua Snowball Corners in them.)
