On Cloud Nine: Flying Ring Quilt Block

Flying Ring Quilt Block a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Flying Ring Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll  also be paired with the Pink 2 1/2″ x
    4 1/2″ rectangles which will help create a “frame” around the White 4 1/2″ center square.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ x
    4 1/2″ rectangles. They’ll also help create a “frame” around the White 4 1/2″ center square.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back sides, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back sides, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Pink 2 1/2″ x
    4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Pink 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)

On Cloud Nine: Crow’s Foot Quilt Block

Crow’s Foot Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block & FOUR (4) more will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. They’re also flanked on ONE (1) other side by the White 2 1/2″ squares & the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. As needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares & they’ll flank the results of the Yellow 4 7/8″ squares. As needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back sides, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block & FOUR (4) more will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White
    2 1/2″ squares & they’ll flank the results of the Yellow 4 7/8″ squares. As needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Salmon: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Pink 2 1/2″ squares as well as the Blue 2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch blocks, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Salmon 2 1/2″ squares as well as the Blue 2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch blocks, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Salmon 2 1/2″ squares as well as the Pink 2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch blocks, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch blocks, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWENTY-FOUR (24) Half-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. Another ONE (1) will the the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (ONE (1) of these will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block. Another ONE (1) will be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWENTY-FOUR (24) Half-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. Another ONE (1) will the the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ square. (ONE (1) of these is paired with the Green 2 1/2″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. It’s also the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block. The other ONE (1) is paired with the results of the Green 2 7/8″ squares & is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
